FLASHFORWARD: Spring Trend Prediction

Things are just beginning to get colder and colder, and we are all piling the layers on, but the fashion world never stops to savor the moment. Looking ahead to spring/summer 2013, I am seeing a significant, and unexpected trend: light blue. Resort collections for Maison Martin Margiela, Raf Simons, Acne, and even Rick Owens, are all incorporating this color fairly heavily. Here are a few choice pieces which you can purchase now to prepare early.

Trap Update: Young Jeezy - "Get Right"

http://thehoodnerd.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/young-jeezy-545x374-e1311298043296.jpg
For the first update for the trap section of this blog I felt it appropriate to dedicate the post to one of the pioneers of the genre. I wasn't the biggest fan of Jeezy's last album, but this song brings him back to his roots. Now bump this in your $4000 Thom Browne suits...

Fall Trend Alert: Tweed

Tweed. The grandpa fabric. The "menswear" staple. Over the years tweed has been worn strictly by older men, and only on blazers and the occasional pair of pants. This season tweed is making the transition into high fashion in a BIG way. It's making is way onto bomber jackets, varsity jackets, and even caps. This isn't the tweed you are familiar with, however. This tweed is colorful, with either flecks of blue red and yellow, or even pink and green tweed. Picking up at least one tweed piece is essential this season, and here are some of my personal favorites.

Thom Browne Varsity Jacket (ok-ni)

Acne Tweed "Sweep" Cap (Stoy-Munkholm)

Acne Neruda Jacket (Mr. Porter)

Fall Essentials: The Sweatshirt

Hello all! Sorry I have been out of commission recently, I am practicing for the PSAT which I'm taking next Wednesday so things have been hectic. I wanted to at least get one post through to you guys for now, and I promise I will post more after the test. Today I want to focus on a piece that is so often called a "classic" that people have come to think of it as boring. The grey crewneck sweatshirt has been around since the beginning of modern time, but recently it hasn't been seeing as much wear as it should be. Celebrities are looking toward "out-there" pieces from Givenchy or Balmain, and classic pieces have been lost amidst the bustle. There is nothing wrong with that, I myself love certain garments from both brands, and statement pieces are absolutely necessary, but a little goes a long way, and this season is the time to go back to the classics. Here are a few simple grey crewneck sweatshirts for you to break out fairly often in the coming months. You can either dress them down with a pair of sweats or jeans and high tops, or you can wear them under a blazer or even a bomber for a sportier look. Clockwise from top: Maison Kitsune, Acne, Maison Martin Margiela. All are available on Mr. Porter and Barney's.

Your Grandpa's Favorite Trend: Elbow Patches

I'm back! Sorry I haven't been on in a few days, I had some projects for school I had to finish up. I'm back to give you more insight into some of the trends for Fall 2012. You may have noticed that Suede or other types of Leather elbow patches have been popping up on sweaters and sweatshirts every now and then over the past few years, but it's only this season that everything is coming together. Brands like Margiela, APC, Norse Projects, and more are all incorporating this trend heavily into their lines for the colder seasons this year. Elbow patches are no longer just for your grandpa and gun enthusiasts, they are very much for you too.

When wearing these crewnecks, make sure you pair them with either a pair of raw denim or mustard colored chinos and some low tops. I suggest A.P.C. for the bottoms and either Lanvin or Common Projects for the low tops, or you could even go classic and wear some cream colored Chuck Taylors.

Here are some of my personal favorite sweaters/sweatshirts with the elbow patch trend:

M/M/M:

I especially love this piece because of the ill burgundy color, and the elbow patches are simply a plus. This model wears it well, this color of chino is good, and you can even go lighter. Purchase here:

Norse Projects:

This sweater is incredible. The military green color on its own is great but when you look closely you see this:

The tweed-like specks of color blow me away. I absolutely love this use of detailing. Purchase here:

A.P.C.:

This is a modern take on an absolute classic. Every man (and woman for that matter) should own a black pullover, and APC puts a perfect contemporary twist on that classic garment. Purchase here:

What I Wore: Fall Beginnings

Hello all, and good morning!

I hope you are all enjoying this weather. I am beyond excited for this weather, I finally can dress in a way that is fun for me.

I wore my first real "fall" outfit last night, and I wanted to share the pieces I wore with all of you.

Here is the outfit as I wore it. The individual pieces are below.

Coat:

This incredible Wings + Horns jacket from last season, a good military style jacket is essential for you guys out there this season. This particular one is sold out everywhere but here is a very similar one from Rag and Bone:

Tee:

Under it I wore a plain white tee, mine was Polo but there is no specific brand you should look for. I personally like Polo because of how soft the cotton is, plus it's made in India rather than China (MIC stuff is a big pet peeve of mine), so that was a plus. Do not be scared of wearing white this winter! Tops and bottoms both, as long as you balance them with other colors it will look great! Here is a link to pick up some basic white tees if you are in need:

Cords:

On the bottom I wear these incredible burgundy corduroys from a few seasons ago that I just picked up. Burgundy is the color to wear this season, and corduroy is the fabric you want to be wearing too. They add just the right amount of texture and variation to your outfit. Watch out for tweed, velvet, and corduroy this season! This specific pair of APCs will be very hard to find, and I am lucky to have found one myself. Here is a similar pair that looks just as good. I don't usually like Gucci, but these are great. Just the perfect ribbing and color:

Shoes:

I am in love with these Neil Barret x Palladium boots from F/W 10. I don't think there could be a more perfect combat-style boot. These contribute, along with the jacket, to the military style of the outfit. They can be worn under or over the pants, depending on your preference. I wore them under, for a subtler look, but you can go either way. Here is a similar pair from Shoto:

I will be back tomorrow, or maybe even later today with another update on Fall trends.

Til next time!

Fall Trend Alert: "Ugly" Becomes Pretty

Burgundy, Olive, and Mustard have always been looked at as the "ugly" colors of the fashion world. I myself absolutely refused to wear even a hint of any of these three colors. But starting in August I became obsessed with exactly these three colors, and now over half of my wardrobe for this season consists of them. I also started to notice these colors popping up in more and more of this season's collections; Raf Simons, Maison Martin Margiela, Acne, Dior Homme, and others. I knew that these colors, or at least Olive/Military Green and Burgundy would be huge this season. My intuition usually fairs me well, and surely enough the colors of the season are exactly as I predicted. Mustard isn't quite as popular as I predicted, but there are still a few pieces which I think are absolutely necessary for the coming months. Here are a few examples of runway looks that incorporate one of these three colors:

Raf Simons

Dior Homme

Fall is coming...

Fall. The red and gold leaves crunch beneath your shoes, the leather jackets and sweatshirts come out of your closet, and you realize... layering season is finally here! Congratulations! You have made it through yet another summer, filled with few pieces you enjoy wearing, and even fewer opportunities to wear them because the weather was so brutal. But none of that matters now, because Autumn (aka the best season for fashion. Period.) is here. I have been planning my wardrobe for months now, and I could not be more excited. I hope all of you enjoy reading this blog as much as I do writing it. Au revoir! Talk to you all soon. - Girindra
